NBA
10 Days of a Lifetime
By Andre Watson
Whether you were a tight end for the Buffalo Bills a few years ago or a 40 year old vet, with the recent spike in Covid cases, you now have a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream for 10 days. As of January 5th NBA teams are now able to add players to the roster for 10 days without any commitment beyond that. This is opening the door for many G league players and undrafted rookies to make their childhood dreams a reality. Players like Jaylen Morris who played college ball on the Division II level, or more familiar faces like Lance Stevenson, if you are a ball player you better be ready. Players like Quinndary Weatherspoon are an example of this, signing his 10-day contract December 23rd and clocking 14 minutes just two days later on Christmas and adding 6 points to the stat sheet. With nearly 100 players entering missing games within the past month due to Covid protocols, NBA teams are needing these players just as much as these players need the NBA. When asked about these 10-day players Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul said “We wouldn’t have a season without you”. It is only fitting that these players finally get their shot at the league, as many of them had college seasons cut short and were unable to have a proper pro-day or combine as a result of the pandemic. As more players have to miss games due to Covid, this will open the door for these players to prove they belong in this league.
